How to apply
1) Clean the stairs thoroughly. Use a degreasing solvent on metal stairs or degreasing detergent on tile, painted wood or concrete stairs.

2) Apply a stripping compound to the stairs if they have a strippable finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to use the stripper effectively. Scrape off the old finish with a scraper.
3) Rinse the stairs with a wet sponge. Allow them to dry completely.
4) Paint a strip of primer onto concrete or unglazed stone stairs where you intend to apply the tape. Use a primer designed for the appropriate surface. Allow the primer to dry completely.
5) Lay a strip of anti-slip tape across a step. Position it so it is 1/2 inch from the edge of the stair. Lift one end of the strip and peel back the first 2 inches of the backing. Being careful to touch the adhesive as little as possible, press the tape firmly onto the step.
6) Lift the strip from the other end and peel off the next few inches of the backing. Press the tape down as you go. Continue until you have applied the entire strip to the stair.
7) Roller over the tape with a rubber hand roller. Begin in the center of the strip and roll to one end, then return to the center and roll to the other end. Apply the tape to the other stairs in the same way.
Things Needed
Degreasing solvent, detergent or stripper
Scraper, optional
Wet sponge
Primer and brush, optional
Rubber hand roller
Warnings
Don't apply anti-slip tape to unpainted wood.
Tips
To apply a small piece of tape rather than a strip, remove the entire backing and hold the tape by its edges. Squeeze your fingers together slightly, so the adhesive side of the tape bulges outward. Center it over the spot you have prepared and press it into place. Roll over it with the hand roller.
